PUMA posts strong growth in the second quarter of 2021

July 29, 2021

Today we published our results for the second quarter and first half of 2021. In spite of many operational issues, the quarter was very good and PUMA reported a strong improvement in sales and profitability. All regions and product divisions contributed with at least double-digit sales increases.

The Americas region reported the strongest increase in sales, followed by EMEA and Asia/Pacific. Footwear was the growth driver in terms of product divisions, as Running and Training as well as Sportstyle performed well. Apparel and Accessories also grew strongly.

Overall, PUMA achieved sales of 1,589 million euros and an operating profit (EBIT) of 109 million euros in the April-June period. For the first six months of 2021, sales came in at 3,138 million euros and EBIT was 263 million euros.

PUMA achieved these strong results this despite many operational issues, such as a shortage in freight capacity, harbor congestion and COVID-19 restrictions in certain sourcing countries.

I am very proud of how our organization has maneuvered through all of these issues and how we managed to achieve these results in the second quarter. We are, of course, still worried about the impact COVID-19 will continue to have on our business in the short-term, now especially in the supply chain, but we continue to be very positive for the mid-term outlook for our sector in general and specifically for PUMA.

PUMA CEO Bjørn Gulden

There were many highlights in the first half of 2021 and our PUMA teams and athletes made us proud. Italy won Euro 2020 and all PUMA sponsored teams made it to the knockout stages. Manchester City won the Premier League, Borussia Dortmund won the DFB Cup and Palmeiras won the Copa Libertadores. In track and field, PUMA athlete Karsten Warholm made history when he broke the 29-year-old 400m hurdles World Record, wearing PUMA’s new EvoSPEED Future FASTER+ spike, which we developed together with Formula 1 team MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS.
