Get the Look: PUMA Mostro
Look Alive!
February 5, 2024Look Alive!
February 5, 2024Fearless and fierce, the PUMA Mostro has just (re)emerged with an experimental new aesthetic that is frighteningly good. Originally launched in 1999, this convention-defying legacy sneaker is thawing out after its long slumber. In homage to the reawakening of a bold legend, we’ve styled a look that similarly (and confidently) struts along the edge between sport and style.
The Shoes
Audacious comfort, spiked soles and a chic metallic flair combine to make a sneaker so bold it has been dubbed the ‘Monster’ (Mostro is Italian for monster). Fusing the sleekness of ’60s sprint spikes with the laid-back aura of an ‘80s surf shoe, the Mostro combines inspiration from separate realms for a hybrid creature that boasts a low-profile design and bold personality. Stalking the streets, this iconic sneaker has been given a modern makeover, swapping out the original leather upper for a mesh material that allows your feet to breathe. Convenient strap closure and lycra lining ensure a comfortable fit, whilst the metallic PUMA Formstrip and vivid yellow colourway ensure a cool fit that defies expectations.
The Outfit
The Mostro’s lively sense of innovation is infused into today’s outfit of the day. Durable black trousers are the preferred base, straddling the edge of style, sport and practical workwear all in the same moment. Above comes a striking black waffle-knit sweater spun from wool ─ for warmth ─ and with a slightly loose and relaxed fit ─ for easy layering and attitude. Plus, this black-on-black moment echoes the current runway revival of this classic fashion trope which continues to gain traction in the new year. Speaking of layers, next up we’ve gone for a sumptuous cashmere and silk vest in subtle grey that elevates the whole look while somehow still staying behind the scenes. Finally, a unique single-breasted wool jacket in a vibrant shade of yellow proudly stands out from the crowd while proffering an enduring, classically stylish silhouette.
The Accessories
With the Mostros at the forefront, the accessories are still attempting to steal (or at least shake up) the show. A striking accent belt with silver-tone hardware gives the fit a fancy flourish, featuring a smoothly rounded buckle accompanied by a pointed metal end cap. A soft silk-chiffon scarf in muted shades of grey and black understands the assignment and is scoring top marks. Below the scarf peeps a subtle silver chain necklace, while an elegant little stainless steel watch nods to the growing trend of shrinking watches. A cut-out bag with a black leather outer layer and a technical shell core gives a nice contrasting visual effect to finish things off.
