March 4, 2024In recognition of Black History Month, on Thursday, February 22nd, the PUMA New York Flagship Store hosted a Black History Month Event in Celebration of the Launch of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture x PUMA Black History Month Collection “Deeply Rooted” which was designed by We are Legends, PUMA’s collective employee led group of black designers, innovators, and creators.
The event included a panel discussion titled “Preserving Cultural Hubs” which was moderated by Angela Rye, an award-winning host, social justice advocate, lawyer, commentator, and self-described empowermenteur. The panel featured Doug Segars – Photographer and Creative Director for the “Deeply Rooted Campaign, Novella Ford-Associate Director of Public Programs and Exhibitions at the Schomburg Center, Nubia Williams – WAL Founding Member and Team Head of Run/Train Design, and Roberta Baker-Lundy-WAL Founding Member and Designer II, Sportstyle Apparel.

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is located in Harlem, NY, and is one of the New York Library’s renowned research libraries and a world leading culture institution devoted to research, preservation, and exhibition of materials focused on African American, African Diaspora, and African experiences. PUMA’s partnership with Schomburg is a part of a year-round multi-year partnership that also includes support of The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture’s Junior Scholar Program and the center’s annual Schomburg Center Literary (LitFest) Festival.
