“There is beauty in every season; you just need to learn to embrace it.”
Pamela, what are your best tips for staying motivated to exercise in the colder months?
Pamela Change your outfit to a more “cozy” version: wear a comfy jacket or sweater and use thicker socks. Sometimes it’s already unpleasant to think about the tight and freezing sports outfit when you’re currently enjoying your warm pajamas. We want to eliminate all those excuses. I also think summer confidence is made in winter! We are mature enough to know that our personal best is not built overnight… or in June. 😊 Having on and off seasons works for some people, but I’m a fan of staying in good shape all year round. This also limits the amount of work you need to put in during spring. Work smart… and a bit hard.
I also advise fueling yourself with warming foods. I like to go for more comforting meals in winter: warm oatmeal, veggie soups, meaty one-pots, and definitely always sipping on hot ginger teas! Eating warm foods helps keep your energy up, so you’ll feel less sluggish and more ready to move.
How does your diet change in winter to support your fitness goals? Do you have any favorite winter recipes?
Pamela No matter the season, I focus on a natural and unprocessed diet. That means I love to buy organic ingredients, focus on high-quality fats, carbs, and meat, and cook most things from scratch. The only difference in winter is the temperature of my meals. I try to eat warm as often as possible, which means I will ditch the raw salads and cold smoothies for some time. My favorite recipes are my warm apple-pie oatmeal from Naturally Pam and Dad’s home-cooked beef soup with fresh root veggies inside.
How do you maintain a positive mindset and mental health during the darker, colder days?
Pamela I write a list of things that bring me joy and refer to those tricks whenever I have a sluggish moment. Self-care with cosmetics, a massage, red-light therapy on my sofa, a dance workout (100% success guarantee), meal prepping with some nice music, going for a nature walk as soon as there is a ray of sun, and journaling before I sleep. There is beauty in every season; you just need to learn to embrace it.
“I have an easier time staying hydrated in winter. I’m such a big fan of tea! I fill up my Stanley Cup first thing in the morning and end up refilling it 3 to 4 times for sure.”
People often forget to hydrate in winter. How do you ensure you stay properly hydrated?
Pamela Honestly, I have an easier time staying hydrated in winter. I’m such a big fan of tea! I fill up my Stanley Cup first thing in the morning and end up refilling it 3 to 4 times for sure. My faves are ginger, anise caraway fennel, dandelion, and cacao chai.
Last question, Pam: What is your favorite piece from the new PUMA x Pamela Reif collection?
Pamela I’m deeply in love with the Asymmetric Skort. It’s a chic workout piece that also perfectly fits into my everyday outfits. It covers any kind of bloating while still looking super cute! Paired with the Longsleeve, which has a feminine curved underbust line.
