November 26, 2024PUMA has earned top-tier recognition in the 2024 Material Change Index by Textile Exchange, a global non-profit organization driving progress in responsible materials sourcing.
Their aim? to help the fashion industry achieve a 45% reduction in greenhouse gases from raw material production by 2030.
This index recognizes brands that stand out in integrating sustainable materials strategies, aligning with global climate goals, and advancing circular material use. The achievement presents as a significant milestone for PUMA, which rose from the second highest “Scaling” tier in 2023.
Responsible Materials at the Core of PUMA’s Mission
“We understand the critical role materials play in reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impact,” said Anne Laure Descours, PUMA’s Chief Sourcing Officer. “Being recognized as a leader in the Material Change Index motivates us to push even further in strengthening our materials strategy.”
As part of our 10FOR25 sustainability targets, PUMA is aiming to ensure that 9 out of 10 of our products are made with preferred fibers or certified materials. In 2023, this was already the case for 8 out 10 products, where:
- 99.7% of leather came from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.
- 99.2% of cotton was certified or recycled.
- 99.4% of paper and cardboard packaging met certified standards.
- 65% of polyester in apparel and accessories was recycled.
PUMA’s recognition by the Material Change Index underlines our commitment to setting industry standards for responsible materials sourcing.
