PUMA digs into the Archive to reacquaint us with some old-school favourites in the NeverWorn capsule. ‘’The PUMA Archive is PUMA’s soul’’ says Chief Archivist at PUMA Helmut Fischer (Mr. PUMA), reminding us that ‘’without heritage, there is no future’’. Inspired by this approach of learning from the old to create something new, we styled items from the capsule with some retro pieces for a vintage-meets-modern kind of look.

The Shoes

Sprawling below PUMA headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany is The Archive ─ an epic dream for sportswear and sneaker fans everywhere. The deadstock products stored here were never worn, meaning they’ve been perfectly preserved for decades which has given them an authentic and satisfyingly aged aesthetic. This vintage appearance was replicated in the latest NeverWorn sneaker collection.

For the new line, iconic silhouettes from the PUMA Archive are making a comeback. We have classic footwear styles ─ like the Blaze of Glory, Suede and Slipstream Lo ─ infused with fresh design details while still retaining that old-school feel. There’s also the more niche Space Lab dropping with similar design inspiration. Each of the four are done up in white, green and black colourways with gold accents.

A faded sole with purposeful patina and classic hang tags give reference to their heritage, making it look as though they’ve been catalogued and waiting on the shelf for years.

The Outfit

For the apparel in the capsule, designs come in a mixture of modern fabrics with retro detailing and memorable graphics. We’ve got some essential players from PUMA’s sporting history, like the T7 tracksuit, as well as sportswear staples like the coach jacket and hoodie ─ all lovingly reconstructed with archival graphics and trims.

Immediately we wanted to use the green t-shirt with its fun retro pattern as the innermost layer of the look. Funky and fresh, right from the get-go it brings something playful to the classic athleisure flow. On top, the crisp crew neck from the line was also irresistible. Easy to style up or down depending on the mood or occasion, this classic crewneck with its clean detailing in that same funky green establishes a perfect colour scheme for the outfit.

Below these, a pair of thrifted trousers in a complementary shade of teal is the perfect accompaniment to give some structure to the slouchier pieces, while still feeling bold and quirky in the best sort of way. Finally, wrap up and stay warm this winter with a lumpy multicoloured jacket. Modelled on retro sportswear, this statement piece is made from a soft wool blend and trimmed with a matching tone of green, keeping the whole look effortlessly cohesive.

The Accessories

From the bottom to the top: mismatched woolly socks keep things extra cozy and pair well with the material mixture in the funky jacket; a black leather belt with unique silver details is a subtle little addition that takes things to the next level (as all good accessories should). Running with the old-school favs, our bag of choice had to be the classic belt bag that is still so trendy and yet also so retro. We chose one in white leather to accompany the white shell of the jacket but you really can’t go wrong with whatever colour you opt for.

A zigzag woollen scarf feels very retro and echoes the loud pattern of the t-shirt, as well as the colour combos and textures seen throughout the look. A pair of round wire ‘dad’ glasses in silver complement the belt and the overall old-school/ new-school theme. Pop a funky hat on top and you’re ready to roll ─ we went for an eccentric trapper-style toque, but if you’re feeling more low-key a classic beanie would also work here.
