The new We Are Legends platform from PUMA celebrates Black excellence and cultural impact by empowering and amplifying voices within the community. Championed by a collective of talented Black designers, the mission is to increase representation within the industry and create palpable change. We’ve styled two looks from their debut collection ‘The Yard’ inspired by the American tradition of homecoming, with collegiate details and a vivid colour palette.

The Shoes

We Are Legends seeks to foster real change within the Black community by establishing a 3-pillar model based on donation, awareness and community. In the debut collection there are PUMA footwear favourites like the Suede revamped with modern accents, news shapes, and a neo-archival head-to-toe style. Updated design details draw references to styles worn by students of historically Black colleges and universities (HCBUs), capturing the culture’s deep history and honoring their contributions to American style.

The Outfit(s)

The collection features apparel in a bright array of maroon, purple, and orange. Designs mix materials and showcase collegiate graphics that unify schools, yard culture, and heritage. Outfit number one features the stylish jumpsuit from the line in a bold red. Relaxed and cool, it is both minimalistically utilitarian and modern, with bright ribboning on the chest and a patch on the arm. Beneath this statement piece peeps the performance sports bra from the line featuring stabilized shoulder straps and a racerback construction for a unrestricted range of motion ─ comfortable and practical. Finally, layer on this season’s big news: the bomber jacket. This gorgeous two-tone model with its loose, slightly gathered silhouette gives a nonchalance to the look and allows the jumpsuit to play the starring role.

The second outfit keeps things simple and sweet with a pair of light blue pair of distressed denim jeans that look nostalgically vintage. These ones are slightly flared at the knee for an original bootcut feel. On top comes the effortlessly cool long sleeve from the line with design details and pops of colour that stand out against the neutral white. Finish up with the striking track jacket again in that intense red. With a bomber-style collar, ribbed cuffs and hem it has been engineered for the perfect fit.

The Accessories 

This season’s overarching mood is nostalgic with subtle riffs on minimalism and main trends being dictated by younger generations on what they deem to be unique and valuable. Accessories in the first outfit are simple and classic ─ a gleaming gold ring with red details elevates the rest of the look and adds a dash of femininity, while a woven leather bucket bag in a warm biege compliments the material and shading of the bomber jacket and draws everything together.

Outfit number two maintains a collegiate and cool vibe: a casual black backpack boosts the lowkey style, a simple gold chain is timeless and a beanie up top (in cashmere!) is the ultimate final addition for comfort and class.

Through the new We are Legends platform a collective of talented Black designers are stepping up and driving the change they want to see in the world. Activating the next generation of Black creatives, the debut collection ‘The Yard’ pays homage to the spirit of the HBCU experience and celebrates Black excellence and cultural contributions.
