July 10, 2023PUMA and PLEASURES officially announce their partnership with the drop of the stunning new Velophasis shoe. Channeling Y2K visual codes into a PUMA heritage item, it’s a retrofuturistic mashup from your early-00’s dreams. Sporty, pretty and very pink, the Overdyed Velophasis sets the tone for the outfit of the day.
The Shoe
An utterly aesthetic approach, the Overdyed Velophasis combines technical and performance materials with a redone design that gives it a characteristic PLEASURES customized feel. Drawing inspiration from its Los Angeles roots, the brand dishes out a DIY, overdyed effect, enveloping the familiar silhouette in shades of pink and purple. On top of the rubber outsole, the featured colour treatment gives a nice worn-in feel to the shoe. The Velophasis also features a translucent cage tinted in purple and stamped with the PLEASURES logo in a sleek black. Melding old and new, technology and history, it’s an ideal summer shoe created by a couple of champions of their craft.
The Outfit
Y2k fashion trends are alive and well, thanks in part to Gen Z and TikTok. This retro craze blends elements of pop culture with tech details from the early 2000s, mixing futuristic details with nostalgic inspirations. Calling upon throwback pieces and reinterpreting them for the modern day, we’ve styled a pretty and playful outfit heavily influenced by the Velophasis.
On the base, a pleated miniskirt feels particularly vintage, yet puts a creative spin on the typical denim miniskirt with its vibrant purple colourway and ornate buckle on a built in low-slung belt. Next comes a minimalistic square-necked crop top with spaghetti straps and clean lines; what makes it stand out from the crowd is the Barbie-pink tone and satin material that really ups the opulence factor. A front button fastening cropped cardigan cinches the deal, with a tie-dyed effect that playfully nods to the overdyed sneakers peeking out from below.
The Accessories
Carrying on with the throwback items, the accessories here are signature pieces with a fresh perspective. First up: is there anything more synonymous with the early-00’s than a baguette bag? This playful leather piece in soft pink shows off stud embellishments and a braided strap, not straying far from its Y2K origins. An elegant silver jewelry set comes with tear-drop earrings and a choker, while no Y2K look would be complete without a (crystal-beaded) butterfly hair clip. Finally a pair of perfectly pink cat eye sunglasses finish things off with a pop of colour and a lot of playful energy.
