October 31, 2023Spooky Season & Subversive Sportswear
October 31, 2023The latest PUMA x PLEASURES launch is a poised blend of carefully calibrated combinations: old and new, street and sport, fashion trends and technical details. The second edition of their ongoing collab combines PLEASURES’ playful eclecticism with PUMA’s sportstyle DNA for a subversive drop that feels perfectly on point. Pulled into the world of PUMA and PLEASURES we’ve styled two looks just in time for spooky season, leaning into current fashion trends and incorporating items from the new collection.
The Shoes
Streetwise silhouettes are transformed with techy details, contrasting colour schemes, and a strong Y2K-inspired aesthetic. Following up from the DIY Overdyed Velophasis which was unveiled earlier this year, we’ve been delivered yet another imagining of the PUMA Velophasis.
This time, the 2000s hybrid running shoe is uniquely done up in two ways ─ the first look opted for the overdyed aesthetic incorporated in the version that showcases an off-white color scheme with subtle yellowing on the chunky sole, giving total vintage feels. Outfit two went for the accompanying pair that encaptures a bold mixture of orange, yellow, and black color blocking. Both sneaker styles show off subtle co-branding and provide a springboard for you to style a killer outfit from.
The Outfit(s)
LA-based brand PLEASURES is well known for pulling pop culture references out of the melting pot that is Los Angeles, contributing a rebellious flavour of punk, metal and grunge leanings into their designs. This creative partnership with PUMA offers original cut-and-sew apparel items with cross-cultural visuals and injections of vibrant hues.
The first outfit starts strong with the ice hockey jersey from the collection, revealing classic raglan sleeves and a graphic applique featuring the brand name and overstated Sportartikelhersteller wording which translates to “Sporting goods manufacturer” in German, a way of acknowledging PUMA’s heritage as a manufacturer of track spikes and football boots. The upcoming layers lean into the soft goth aesthetic of the season ─ a slim-fitting black turtleneck peeks out from above and below the jersey, while a pair of wide-leg leather trousers with a unique lace-up fastening at the front also follow the ‘leather everywhere’ cues we’re currently seeing on runways. Not an entirely original nor unexpected autumn trend, but still this classic material can never really go wrong in any ensemble. Finish off with a highlight from the collection: the eye-catching purple puffer jacket with all-over geometric patterning is designed with PrimaLoft® insulation to keep you warm in transitional times.
The second side mixes and matches elements from the launch for a more irreverent punk feel. At the bottom come the contemporary cargo pants with a bold patterning and comfortable elastic waistband. Then a black tee with colourful imagery compliments the tones in the rest of the outfit and makes a certain edgy statement, and a black hoodie from the line with front and back graphics completes the punkish vibe. Finish up with that same puffer jacket seen in the first look, this time in a striking orange shade that certainly brightens up the brooding a little.
The Accessories
The accompanying accessories continue the edgy and subtly subversive themes; the first look rocks a pair of long and lacy gloves ─ necessary with the long-sleeve turtleneck? probably not. Elegant and off-the-cuff eccentric? definitely ─ along with a distinctive black bow which is giving strong Wednesday Addams spooky season vibes. A simple sculpted chain-link bracelet and bold earrings are all the jewellery you need. Then the tote bag from the collection continues that Y2K aesthetic, with practical pockets and star all-over printed graphics complementing the rest of the look.
The second outfit goes out with flair ─ a bright orange cashmere statement scarf for keeping cozy, a black felt tote bag to introduce another interesting texture to the mix, and a technically fabulous bucket hat with removable face mask to complete the look.
