PUMA x Sophia Chang

A decade after their first creative endeavour, versatile visionary Sophia Chang and powerhouse PUMA are back with a new collection of footwear, apparel and accessories that are guided by values of inclusivity and feminine allyship and shaped by women’s basketball style. We’ve crafted a look that incorporates trending streetwear elements into some of the classic court silhouettes from the series.

The Shoes

A storyteller, designer, illustrator and all-round creative queen, Chang infuses this multifaceted approach into her work. The series showcases two sneaker variations, each radiant in a soft pastel hue with a retro aesthetic that continues to draw inspiration from the overarching basketball motif. 

The Palermo model in “Grape Mist” incorporates illustrations embedded into the PUMA Formstrip within the legendary ‘80s archival revival. For today’s look, the Suede took the lead in a chilled-out “Zen Blue ” that proudly displays Chang’s hand-drawn aesthetic and logo throughout the classic sneaker’s upper and tongue.

The Outfit

Revolving around the magic of urban spirit meets retro aesthetic combined with women’s basketball power, the capsule contains updated sportstyle items with collegiate detailing, hand-drawn visuals, and fresh pastel tones. In today’s outfit, the bottoms stand strong with a pair of wide-legged, high-waisted PUMA black pants that effortlessly transition from court to street and back again. Above comes a delicate ivory white bustier, emphasizing that power can be found in the softer feminine aspects as well.

An abstract pastel-print long-sleeve gives an extra oomph of creativity and whimsy that echoes the creativity of Chang’s designs; directly above comes the Basketball jersey from the series, grounding things back into their sports heritage roots. With mesh panels and a rounded hem, plus various faded shades of blue, it’s an immediate courtside classic. Up top we went for the relaxed fit hoodie in that lovely “Grape Mist” shade and with Sophia Chang graphics scattered throughout the chest and sleeve. Finally, a denim jacket with sinuous seams and billowing sleeves is the creatively classic finishing layer.

 The Accessories 

Known for her distinctive urban style and innovative approach, Sophia Chang carries her vision into accessories as well. From the launch we went with the iconic Cross Body Bag scattered with a montage of her interwoven illustrations and made to carry all your essentials. Then a moisture-wicking cap with the PUMA CAT logo in reflective material pops on the front, standing out against a swirl of abstract pastel hues that match the long-sleeve layer. An iconic pair of gold-tone sunglasses with pink-tinted lenses adds another playful punch of colour that goes well with the hoodie. Sharing that same gold connection, a shiny pair of asymmetric earrings and a bracelet finish things off by upping the opulence factor.
