July 1, 2024From the pitch to the spotlight, Weston McKennie’s path with PUMA officially began in March of 2024, but his love for the brand and the FUTURE started long before that. The US shooting star sat down with CATchUp to give the PUMAFam a glimpse into his journey and his future with the brand.
You joined the PUMAFam earlier this year. What is it that you look most forward to most within your work with PUMA in the future?
Weston: What I look forward to the most is just the connections that can be built through PUMA and with PUMA in general and seeing where the relationship goes as far as the ideas to help grow soccer in America and more specifically in my hometown. That’s what I’m most excited about.
You are an inspiration for many young players. If you could give them one piece of advice for their journey in soccer, what would it be?
Weston: I would say, have self-confidence and believe in yourself. If you have a plan A, don’t have a plan B because you want to invest everything into your plan A. That’s the advice I would give on life in general as well.
I feel like I'm the guy that tries to become relatable for everyone. And I strive to bring joy and happiness to the game within US soccer. I also pride myself on being that guy that kind of helps set the tone inside of a game.

“I look for comfort and shoes that I don’t slip in. As small as these details may be they are super important, especially to me with my foot problems that I have and my knees and everything. That’s why I’ve been playing in the FUTURE before I even signed with PUMA. I still continue to wear them now because they offer the most important things that I look for in a boot.”

You are currently playing the Copa América, one of the most significant continental football tournaments for the Americas. How have you been preparing for this big event? Do you have any special good luck charms or pre-game rituals that you do before every match?
Weston: I have been preparing in the best way I know, which is just training and connecting with all the players on and off the field. As for rituals I have, I pray before every game. I make sure I give thanks where it’s needed.
