Designing the JER-SHE was such an exciting opportunity because it’s so unique – we don’t often get to create specific women’s styles in motorsport. Right now, motorsport is really working to empower women and encourage the next generation to get involved, while also pushing for more diversity and inclusion in a sport that’s still very male-dominated. The JER-SHE can definitely play a part in that shift. Plus, the timing couldn’t be better with this year marking the 75th anniversary of F1.
The design draws directly from the racetrack. It has:
- a bold allover checkered flag print engineered into the fabric.
- the number 75 on the back to mark the 75th anniversary of F1 – a nod to the rich history and legacy of the sport.
- an aerodynamic cutline with a sleek silver pattern.
- mesh panels to reflect the essential ventilation needed on and off the track.
Throughout the design process, countless versions were created before landing on the final product. This involved constant alignment with the leadership board, other teams, and, in this case, even F1 itself – who had to give their approval on the final design.
An old sample of the JER-SHE
A standout example? The chequered flag. Minh and Chelsea wanted it to be a key feature, but in the initial designs and samples, it wasn’t really coming through. After several adjustments, the final version now showcases the chequered flag more clearly – a bold highlight that ties the whole piece together.
Minh’s and Chelsea’s style tip for their JER-SHE! 🔥
The JER-SHE is very versatile in terms of styling. You can wear it with a mesh maxi dress or maxi skirt underneath. And because of its boxy fit, you can easily tuck it in or adjust it to fit your style. Or you could size up and rock it as a dress.
I think the beauty of it is its versatility – it lets people express their own style and creativity through the jersey. The oversized fit gives it that effortless vibe, but even with the loose fit that keeps it comfy, the design details still highlight femininity.
