PUMA teams up with Football V Homophobia to tackle LGBTQI+ discrimination at all levels of football
July 22, 2020PUMA teams up with Football V Homophobia to tackle LGBTQI+ discrimination at all levels of football
July 22, 2020For Equality we are all fighting! We want football to take a clear stand against homophobia and transphobia and teamed up with Football v Homophobia (FvH) so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game.
PUMA partners with FvH to promote positive action against discrimination based on sexuality or gender identity in and through the sport. Prejudice and discrimination against LGBTQI+ people is still present in many areas of football. Homophobic chanting, the use of derogatory terms, homophobic signs and banners, are only some examples of the discriminatory behaviour that LGBTQI+ fans, athletes and others are being subjected to. We are very proud, some of our athletes take a stand and actively promote the Football v Homophobia initiative with us.
One of them is PUMA athlete and former English footballer Lianne Sanderson.
We must continue, the job will never be over or done, until all are equal. We must continue to show homophobia is not acceptable and enabling is no different to the perpetrator. Never feel strange for being you. I will continue to always be unapologetically myself.
As an international initiative FvH engages in campaigning, education, advice and guidance, research, policy consultation and capacity building to:
- Make existing football structures safe, welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQI people
- Create opportunities and promote engagement of LGBTQI people in football at all levels and in all forms
- Improve the representation and visibility of LGBTI people throughout football
- To realise the potential of football in society as a tool to create positive change
