February 24, 2024On New Year’s Day, a devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Noto peninsula in Japan, causing widespread damage and a tsunami. PUMA Japan, which has a store near the affected area, decided to take action and support the people in need.
The company’s leadership team quickly agreed on two goals:
- to provide assistance to their employees and their families and
- to arrange for necessary supplies in cooperation with the local authorities.
However, due to the chaotic situation, it was difficult to get a clear response from the prefecture.
Nevertheless, our PUMA Japan colleagues continued to closely monitor the situation and checked the inventory of products that could be supplied to them so that it could respond immediately when the need would arise.
Soon, they learned that Wajima City, one of the most damaged areas, was in urgent need of clothing. The city had suffered a fire that destroyed many wooden houses, and many residents were still without water and shelter.
PUMA Japan contacted Wajima City directly and prepared 1,459 sets of jersey tops and bottoms. They also enclosed a message of encouragement to each set.
The shipment was then delivered directly to the Wajima City Cultural Hall, facilitated by the Japan Logistics team and the warehouse staff.
