PUMA x Butter Goods
Revving Up for Something New
December 27, 2023Revving Up for Something New
December 27, 2023PUMA is revving the throttle to mark its 75th anniversary, which coincides with the 15th milestone of Butter Goods, the Australian skate and streetwear label. For the occasion, the two brands are rekindling their creative partnership and building on the collaboration established in the previous season. Centered around a concise capsule of items, the latest energetic collection takes cues from ’90s dirtbike and BMX racing gear; we’re riding this stylistic inspiration straight to the finish line for a fast-paced and slightly retro outfit of the day.
The Shoes
Establishing a blazing motif that will remain present throughout the entire collection, the new PUMA Suede gets a creative twist with a monochromatic black palette contrasted with crisp white stitching. Flames dance along the shoe’s upper, embodied in a patch that takes center stage on the PUMA Formstrip. Completing the look is a distinctive co-branded tag that graces the tongue.
The Outfit
Infused with details and design elements reminiscent of the race track, the entire capsule radiates a high-octane vibe that drives sportstyle to the next level. The focal point of the collection’s apparel items is a long-sleeve jersey inspired by rally aesthetics, adorned with whimsical team logos reminiscent of professional racing, such as “PUMA Pro Racing” and “Butter Equipment.” A numerical insignia pays homage to the founding years of both brands, with a nod to 1948 for PUMA and 2008 for Butter Goods.
Below this statement jersey comes a pair of edgy and effortless distressed denim jeans with a sleek and skinny (dare we say aerodynamic?) silhouette. Above comes a compact and lightweight padded wool gilet with a shade of soft grey that balances out the more flamboyant nature of the jersey and subtle orange details that seek to complement it. The final layer is a funnel-neck quilted down coat in sleek black ─ oversized, obvious, and anything but your ordinary outerwear option.
The Accessories
For this outfit, we’ve gone ahead and applied plenty of accessories to complement the concise nature of the capsule. A ribbed-knit wool-cashmere beanie in the same cozy grey as the gilet gets things going with a soft start. Ruby red rectangular sunglasses with grey tinted lenses lend a nice incognito effect to the look, plus the rouge shading plays with the flames adorning the Formstrip on the sneakers to tie things together. A matching silver and onyx ring and necklace combo are seemingly at odds with the more low-key BMX aesthetic, yet somehow the subtle elevation helps to keep things interesting. A black leather belt with eye-catching silver hardware catches the metallic glint of the jewellery while acknowledging the current Western influence trending in men’s fashion these days. Finally, a black leather tote bag with green and red detailing aligns with hues and materials running throughout the outfit for a perfect photo finish.
