June 6, 20196 weeks, 10 teams, 150 cricketers: The 2019 Cricket World Cup is a definite highlight for cricketers and fans.
To support our most important cricketer as good as we can, PUMA not only dropped collector’s edition shoes for Virat Kohli and Cricket lovers but also an anthem to properly root for him and Team India.
The special collector’s edition of the one8 cricket shoes pays tribute to India’s captain Virat Kohli. Tailormade for the top-order batsman to stand out at the biggest cricketing event of the year, it features his favorite colors: white with golden accents. The limited edition includes only 150 pairs of shoes.
I’m humbled to receive this special treatment from my PUMA family. With a very important tournament ahead of us, I’m excited to take the field in PUMA’s custom-made Golden Shoe. I have always loved white and gold and the design truly compliments my needs in terms of the fit and style.
Further contributing to the cricket frenzy, PUMA also launched SOCKTHEM featuring Virat Kohli and India’s biggest hip-hop star Divine. The campaign gives cricket fans everything they need to have to support the Men in Blue: a rap anthem and a symbolic gesture.
“Cricket is one of the biggest cultural integrators in India. The SOCKTHEM campaign celebrates cricket and the culture of the sport that unites our nation. The anthem is a perfect way for fans to voice their support for Virat and cheer for Team India,” said Abhishek Ganguly, PUMA India’s Managing Director.
For the man behind the track, Divine, SOCKTHEM was “one of the most unique projects“ he has worked on.“I am super excited to have played such an integral role in the campaign. I hope everyone enjoys singing it, as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life.”
The campaign video was released on May 31. Two days later, it had more than 27 million views on YouTube and more than 7 million views on social media including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
The gesture in the video is inspired by Virat Kohli’s iconic moment, where he made a statement by gesturing that he lets his bat do the talking.
The campaign works perfectly, not only digitally: Team India was up and running straightaway with a victory in their first match of the tournament against South Africa. Next, Virat Kohli and the Men in Blue take on Australia on Sunday, June 9 (9:30am GMT / 3pm IST).
